Shepherd tells his signature story, “Little Orphan Annie and the Secret Decoder Ring,” about a boy’s loss of innocence. In the Q&A, Shepherd dismisses radio as “just a bunch of goddamn wires,” protesting that radio was not his medium. The audience disagrees.
